At the edge of the fertile Messara planes -in the South of Crete- you will find the authentic village of Kamilari with approx. 400 inhabitants. Visitors are usually independent travellers so the village has retained its original, rural character.
The Centre of Kamilari has been restored and exudes a relaxed and timeless atmosphere. Here you can meet the friendly villagers. In Kamilari there is a supermarket for your daily shopping, 7 excellent Greek tavernas, a well known pizzeria and several cosy kafenions.

The beautiful, kilometer-long sandy beaches between Kalamaki and Komos are quickly and easily accessible (approx. 3 km).
In Kamilari you can vary beach visits with many beautiful hikes through the varied countryside. Also (day) trips to for example Agia Galini or the caves of Matala. the archaeological site at Phaestos, Agia Triada and Gortys should not be missed.
Kamilari is approximately 60 km from Heraklion, and about 1 hour from the airport via good roads.
